Change is difficult. New research is beginning to explain why it’s so difficult, and how it can happen more easily. However, to achieve this we may need to rethink many accepted paradigms, as brain research is uncovering a series of surprises about human functioning.
In 2004, David founded the brain-based approach to coaching, which has gathered momentum as a theory base for coaching. In collaboration with several leading neuroscientists, David is working to explain the neural basis of issues like self-awareness, reflection, insight and accountability.
NeuroLeadership is focusing on four domains that are emerging as the central organizing principles:
- Decision making and problem solving
- Staying cool under pressure
- Collaborating with others
- Facilitating change
Your effectiveness as a coach can be maximized if you incorporate the latest findings from neuroscience into your approach. David will help you understand how change occurs, and how to incorporate these findings into your coaching methodology to help clients accept and deal with change initiatives. Attendees will gain insights that can improve their own effectiveness and productivity as well as ways to help their clients.

January 21, 2010 by EBC · Leave a Comment
International Coaching Week (ICW) is a weeklong global celebration of the coaching profession held annually, during the first week in February. Originally founded in 1999 by ICF member Jerri N. Udelson, MCC, ICW is a designated time each year for coaches and clients to educate the general public about the value of working with a professional coach and to acknowledge the results and progress made through the coaching process.
During this extended commemoration, coaches around the world offer a variety of activities and pro bono services in their local communities to share what coaching has the ability to do.
The International Coach Federation is a proud sponsor of ICW and encourages coaches all over the globe to participate by holding special events during the designated International Coaching Week. ICW is a special time each year for all professional coaches to join together and celebrate the profession as one.

EBC Jams at CraigsList Foundation Boot Camp
July 6, 2009 by EBC · Leave a Comment
There was a coaching jam session in Berkeley in June and EBC was in the house! What’s a coaching jam session? In this case, 100 coaches converged on the same location on the same day and gave free coaching sessions to 500 people! As a partner supporting the CraigsList Foundation Boot Camp, The Coaches Training Institute (CTI, www.thecoaches.com) offered free coaching sessions to boot camp attendees with graduates of the CTI co-active coach training program.
The boot camp is best described as a place where emerging and established community leaders gather together to change the world. It’s an intensive one day event where people learn how to bring their ideas for stronger communities into reality. Coaches were brought into the mix to evoke the creativity and insight innately possessed by the attendees. To learn more about the boot camp, check www.craigslistfoundation.org.
A handful of East Bay Coaches participated in the event, and a couple have the following to share:
It was delightful to be in a roomful of 50 coaches and know that so many people were open to giving coaching a try for the first time. Their work is so passionate for them! I followed up with most of my clients, and might have one ongoing client. –Nancy Montier
The buzz of energy in a room of 50 working coaches was amazing! It’s as though you could palpably feel the movement that was taking place for clients. I was humbled by the experience of spending time in sessions with members of our next generation – young adults who care passionately for this world and are taking ownership for their role in creating a better future. I would sign-up again in a heartbeat. – Veronica Wolfe

What Craigslist Believes About Coaching
It has been important to us at each Boot Camp to include coaching as a powerful tool for transformative leadership. We know that the cost of coaching cannot be absorbed by all budgets, and are committed to bringing top quality coaching sessions to our attendees for free. We truly believe that social entrepreneurship begins with each individual’s mission to fulfill their life potential. Coaching is an important tool/process for finding that direction and being clear about your path.
